May is Better Hearing & Speech Month (BHSM). The annual observance provides an opportunity to raise awareness about communication disorders and the role of members of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) in providing life-altering treatment.

The theme for 2018 is "Communication for All." ASHA offers a wealth of resources to help audiologists and speech-language pathologists celebrate all month long.

While the first two weeks of the month focused on pediatrics, including "Communication Milestones and Early Identification of Disorders" and "Hearing Loss in School-Aged Kids," the last half of May will highlight older adults:

  • May 13-19: Swallowing Disorders in Adults
  • May 20-26: Older Americans & Falls

Visit the ASHA website to access resources for professionals and ways to publicize BHSM.
