Trinity Health PACE, in Livonia, MI, recently appointed Karen J. Nichols, MD, as regional medical director to oversee its health care services.

Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE®) provide comprehensive medical, health, recreational, spiritual and social services for local seniors to promote their independence at home.

"Dr. Nichols will be a great addition to the Trinity Health PACE team," said Kelly Hopkins, president and CEO of Trinity Health PACE. “Her background in medicine, quality initiatives and geriatrics will be a strong guiding force for our programs. We are excited to have her on board.”

Dr. Nichols was chief medical officer at Mercy LIFE-West Philadelphia from 2009 to 2013. "I am thrilled to be back working in the PACE model – a model that I believe in that makes a significant and lasting difference in the lives of frail seniors," she said.

As regional medical director at Trinity Health PACE, Dr. Nichols will provide clinical oversight to the programs, focusing on patient needs and reducing variation among the programs.

Before joining Trinity Health PACE, Dr. Nichols was chief medical officer for VIP Medicare Plans at Amerihealth Caritas Family of Companies. She was named Woman of the Year, 2013-2014, by the National Association of Professional Women. Dr. Nichols received a B.S. in medical technology from Quinnipiac College before attending Temple University School of Medicine.
