St. Paul's PACE Opens East Center in El Cajon

February 27, 2018

A ribbon-cutting celebration for a new location of St. Paul’s Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) was held on Feb. 23. The St. Paul’s PACE East Center will open in El Cajon, CA, in early March.

The new center will serve as an extension of the two existing St. Paul’s PACE locations in downtown San Diego and Chula Vista.

“St. Paul’s PACE has cared for more than 1,000 low-income and frail seniors, keeping them in their homes and out of skilled nursing,” said center director Kim Stratman. “The East County of San Diego has wanted St. Paul’s to open a center for some time because there is such a need. Research shows there are many low-income and frail seniors who will benefit from our program in this area. We are proud to finally be here.”

St. Paul's is conducting a capital campaign to underwrite expenses associated with the start-up of the new PACE center.

“It takes several million dollars for the start-up of a new PACE facility,” said Todd Kaprielian, executive director of the St. Paul's Senior Services Foundation. “St. Paul's is indebted to generous supporters like Frances White and the Herbert and Judy Paige Foundation for their generous gifts. It’s inspiring to see individuals and granting foundations prioritize the needs of seniors in our community. Their generosity today ensures low-income, frail seniors will receive health care services for years to come.”

St. Paul’s Senior Services opened the first St. Paul’s PACE in San Diego in 2008. St. Paul’s PACE provides frail seniors with a community of health care professionals under one roof. Seniors receive the health care and social services they need to stay independent and healthy and continue living at home. The program provides in-home care, transportation and personalized medical services. Seniors qualify if they are age 55 and over and have chronic medical conditions that make it difficult to live at home.
