House Passes Older Americans Act Reauthorization

The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Older Americans Act Reauthorization (S. 192) on Monday.

"We are excited to see the Older Americans Act on the verge of reauthorization, and we applaud the House for this important step," said Kathy Greenlee, assistant secretary for Aging. Nearly 45 million older adults live in the United States today, and that number is growing rapidly.

Geisinger Featured in Article About Aging Boom and the Health Care Industry

“The best place for a person to be is at home with their loved ones,” stated Ron Beer, chief administrative officer of Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, in Wilkes-Barre, PA, in a recent article about the readiness of the health care industry to respond to the aging boom.

"The more that we can do to keep them in that setting and augment it, the better the patients are going to be and the better the families are going to be," Beer told the Scranton Times-Tribune.

PACE: A One-Stop Shop for Long-Term Care for Frail Older Adults

Among "The Four Most Frequently Asked Questions About Medicaid Home Care," writes blogger Anne Tumlinson, is "What Are the Special Programs I Should Know About?"

At the top of her list is PACE.

"PACE is a very personalized and coordinated one-stop shop for all medical and long-term care that frail older adults may need," says Tumlinson, who works to improve care for the frailest, most vulnerable older adults.

"There isn’t a PACE program in every town or in every state, but there should be," she writes.

New York State Department of Health Issues RFI for PACE Model Expansion

The New York State Department of Health has issued a Request for Information (RFI) for PACE Model Expansion.

The Request for Information seeks to solicit suggestions about the PACE model of services and supports.

“Through this RFI, the New York State Department of Health is seeking to explore strategies and concepts to enhance and expand this unique, alternative approach for providing long-term services and supports (LTSS),” according to a press release by the Division of Long-Term Care in the Department of Health.
