At a recent event in Washington, DC, commemorating the 50th anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid, Andy Slavitt, acting administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), discussed a recent visit to On Lok Lifeways in San Francisco. NPA debuted the video during the opening general session of its 2014 Annual Conference in San Diego.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has incorporated the video in a training program.

Element Care Offers Scholarship Program

Element Care provides a scholarship program at North Shore Community College that helps students fund their education and offers a possible job opportunity upon graduation. Since it was established in 2007, the program has awarded more than $85,000 in scholarships to 57 students.

CMS Study Opens Door to For-Profit Sponsors for PACE

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has published the study of for-profit PACE demonstration programs conducted by CMS. With the submission of the study to Congress, CMS announced that it would no longer take not-for-profit or for-profit status into account when accepting and reviewing PACE provider applications. As a result, the door is open for the first time for for-profit sponsors to develop PACE programs.

Remote Health Care Monitoring in PACE Programs

A student team at Wichita State University received a grant to purchase two smart watches and hire a Web developer to aid in incorporating their remote health monitoring application and online system into PACE programs.
