U.S. Rep. Francis Rooney (R-19) recently visited the Hope PACE Center and Hospice House in Fort Myers, FL. He was hosted by Samira K. Beckwith, president and CEO of Hope Healthcare.

Penny Abulencia Retires As Executive Director of PACE CNY

Penny Abulencia, RN, MS, has retired as executive director of PACE CNY and senior vice president of Loretto after 20 years.

Stephanie Button, MSW, who has been with PACE since 2001, was named the new executive director of PACE CNY.

Fallon Health Plans to Open PACE Program in Webster, MA

Fallon Health has announced plans to open a Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE®) in Webster, MA. The new Summit ElderCare location will have the capacity to care for at least 250 participants.

“Building a new site in Webster offers participants a brand-new facility that is close to where many of our participants live,” said Richard Burke, president and CEO of Fallon Health.

PACE of Southwest Michigan Welcomes New Medical Director

The Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE®) of Southwest Michigan, in St. Joseph, has welcomed Erika Nearpass, DO, as its new medical director.

“We are proud to welcome Dr. Nearpass to our organization, and we look forward to her leadership in helping seniors in Berrien, Cass and Van Buren counties maintain their independence,” said Therese Saggau, executive director of PACE of Southwest Michigan. “Her strong passion for caring for the geriatric population is certain to make positive contributions to the care of our participants.”

CMS Releases Advance Copy of Emergency Preparedness Rule Interpretive Guidance

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released an advance copy of the "Emergency Preparedness for All Provider and Certified Supplier Types: Interpretive Guidance."

The interpretive guidance further explains the requirements for providers and suppliers impacted by the new CMS Emergency Preparedness Rule published on Sept. 16, 2016.

Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE®) must be in compliance with the rule by Nov. 15.

House Ways & Means Health Subcommittee to Hold Medicare Advantage Hearing June 7

The Health Subcommittee of the House Ways and Means Committee has scheduled a June 7 hearing on Medicare Advantage that will focus on Special Needs Plans (SNPs), the Program for All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE®), and emerging value-based insurance design models, InsideHealthPolicy.com has reported.

Element Care Hosts Khmer New Year Celebration with Community Health Center

Element Care hosted approximately 100 people at its PACE Center in Lowell, MA, on April 19 to celebrate the Khmer New Year. The event was co-sponsored by the Lowell Community Health Center (LCHC).

Susan West Levine, CEO of LCHC, welcomed everyone in attendance, while Bob Wakefield, CEO of Element Care, provided background on the festivities.

Lisa Zavorski Named Executive Director of LIFE St. Francis

Lisa Zavorski has been named executive director of LIFE St. Francis, a Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE®) in Bordentown, NJ.

Zavorski brings a wealth of experience in health care operations and PACE to her new position. Before joining LIFE St. Francis, she was director of Integrated Case Management at St. Francis Medical Center. She joined LIFE St. Francis in May 2012 as director of Quality and Compliance and was promoted to center director last March.

NCHS Ends Data Collection for National Study of Long-Term Care Providers

The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) has successfully completed data collection for its 2016 National Study of Long-Term Care Providers, including Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE®), with a 60 percent response rate.
