MEOC Faces ‘Unpredictable Surprises’ with Federal Funding Cuts

In the wake of administration cuts and a proposed federal budget that could strike at approximately 30 funding sources, Mountain Empire Older Citizens (MEOC) is questioning how it will continue to support the older population in Southwest Virginia.
MEOC has provided services ranging from providing meals to helping seniors remain in their homes for more than half a century. Its ability to continue to do so is a question that executive director Michael Wampler and his staff ask every day.
“It’s a juggling act,” he said. “When these reorganizations and restructurings are taking place, we never know how it’s going to affect us. It’s hard to keep up.”
