NPA has partnered with SAGECare, a division of SAGE, the oldest and largest LGBTQ+ aging care provider in the United States, to bring the SAGECare course on “Supporting LGBTQ+ Older Adults” to the PACE Learning Center. The training introduces enrollees to the specific needs and experiences of LGBTQ+ older adults.

The course contextualizes the lives of LGBTQ+ older adults through case studies and videos of real individuals to help learners understand why some individuals in this population may choose not to come out. The course also provides important definitions of terms such as lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender and provides enrollees with resources and best practices to integrate into their daily work.

The release of the course reflects the commitment of NPA to ensure that those working with older adults are equipped with the knowledge to effectively support all individuals, including members of the LGBTQ+ community.

“As a model of care founded to meet the needs of underserved communities, it is incredibly important that we continue to support efforts that ensure PACE provides thoughtful, compassionate care for the diverse population we serve,” said Sari Bailey, senior director of Education at NPA.

Partnering with SAGECare enables NPA to leverage the expertise of a nationally recognized organization committed to advancing inclusive care practices. With a proven track record of educating hundreds of thousands of care providers, SAGECare training directly supports nearly half a million LGBTQ+ older adults in receiving affirming, inclusive care.

“The release of this course on the PACE Learning Center and the partnership that made it possible reflect our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and to expanding our educational offerings to meet the needs and priorities of the PACE community,” said Bailey.
