New Report Offers State-by-State Analysis of Family Caregiving

Posted on: October 29, 2025

The Caring Across States report by AARP and the National Alliance for Caregiving introduces the first state-by-state analysis ever included in the Caregiving in the US report series. Building on national findings from Caregiving in the US 2025, the new report offers a more localized perspective on caregiver experiences across the country. With 63 million caregivers nationwide, the report shows that geographic location significantly influences the caregiving experience, from the intensity of care required to financial strain and access to support services.

The state-based findings show that while caregivers nationwide face emotional stress, health impacts and inconsistent workplace protections, the specific challenges and their severity differ depending on where caregivers live. The report outlines potential areas for policy action, including strengthening long-term care systems, integrating caregivers into health care delivery, and improving workplace and financial supports aligned with state-level needs.
